Collection: Winter Socks

Men's and women's winter socks for working, walking, trecking, hiking and every day wear.

Which winter socks are best for me?

This depends on a number of factors, in particular what you intend to use them for and what type of shoe you wear. All our socks which we recommend for winter use are available for both men and women.

Sock length

Choose between Crew length or Calf length winter socks. If you are walking in boots then we recommend Calf length. If you are walking in shoes then Crew length is fine.

Single or double layer socks?

The 1000mile double layer walking sock is designed to help prevent blisters. The two sock layers rub against each other instead of the skin. However, two layers retain more heat than one so some walkers prefer a single layer sock.

If you are doing an activity which is outside your normal routine, for example a winter walking holiday, then you may want to go a for a double layer sock.

Another important point to consider is the type of sock you were wearing when you purchased your shoes/boots. For example, if you had a thick sock on when trying on footwear, then you should stick with a thicker sock. This is because your foot moves around more, potentially causing blisters.

Padding

Padding adds extra protection for your foot. The Fusion, Trek and Repreve Walk range of winter socks have extra padding in the toes, heel and ball of the foot.

Thick winter socks

Thick walking socks have a double layer and padding. As a result, they are better for very cold conditions where you need the extra thermal properties. However, make sure that when you buy new boots or shoes then you take the socks you will be wearing to try them on.

What size do I need?

Choose the same size winter socks as your foot size. For example, if you have a narrow fitting (D or less for men, B or less for women) or are on the border between sizes you should go down a size. The sock should be a snug fit with not wrinkles.
