Which are the best running socks for me?

This often comes down to personal preference. However, here are a few factors you may like to consider:

  • Sock length
  • Single or double layer
  • Padding
  • Size
  • Environmental impact

Running socks length guide

1000 mile running sock size types

Our range comes in anklet, socklet and crew length sizes.

Socklet running socks

anklet running socks

Socklet running socks are our shortest style, sitting low below the ankle for a minimal, barely-there feel. They're ideal for runners who prefer less coverage, particularly in warmer weather, and work well with low-cut running shoes and trainers. Their discreet fit also makes them a good choice if you prefer your running socks to remain largely hidden inside your shoes.

Anklet running socks

Anklet running socks

Anklet running socks sit higher than socklets, covering the ankle while still providing a lightweight, low-profile fit. Also known as ankle socks, they offer a little more coverage and protection around the ankle and Achilles area, while remaining ideal for running shoes and trainers.

Crew length runnng socks

crew length running socks

Crew length running socks sit higher than anklet styles, providing extra coverage and protection around the ankle and lower leg. They are a popular choice for runners who prefer a more traditional sock length, without the full coverage of calf-length socks.

Double layer vs single layer

1000 Mile is famous for its double layer, anti-blister system. In particular, the first Original 1000 Mile Sock is a sock within a sock - a twin skin sock. The inner layer stays with the foot whereas the outer layer moves with the shoe, eliminating friction on the skin and protecting your feet from blisters.

Single layer socks give a more traditional, direct feel inside the shoe and are often lighter and less bulky. They are a good choice for runners who prefer close-fitting running shoes or simply like the feel of a conventional technical sock.</p>

Neither system is right for everyone. Some runners prefer the lightweight feel of a single layer sock, while others find double layer running socks more comfortable, particularly over longer distances or if they are prone to blisters.

What size do I need?

Sizing is based on UK shoe sizes. Therefore, choose the same size sock as your foot size. However:

  • If you have a narrow fitting (D or less for men, B or less for women)
  • Are on the border between sizes

You should go down a size. The sock should be a snug fit with not wrinkles.

Men's running socks sizes:

Sizing based on UK men's shoe size:

  • Medium – 6-8.5UK (EUR 39-42.5)
  • Large – 9-11.1UK (EUR 43-46.5)
  • XL – 12-14UK (EUR 47-49)

Women's running socks sizes:

Sizing based on UK ladies shoe size:

  • Small – 3-5.5UK (EUR 36-38.5)

Padded running socks

The Fusion anklet running sock combines the comfort and protection of a padded sock with the 1000 Mile Double Layer System. As a result, friction reduces, increasing blister protection.

The padded zone on the heel, not only helps to protect the Achilles tendon but has been extended around the ankle to the front to protect the foot from any discomfort caused by footwear.

Padding on the toe and ball of foot areas covers known trouble spots for runners and walkers alike. Therefore, gives extra protection whatever the activity, making these the ultimate comfort in padded running socks.

Recycled running socks

Run green with our range of recyled men's and women's running socks made from 100% recycled materials, primarily plastic bottles.  In other words, they help the planet by reducing energy, water and greenhouse gases.

1000 Mile Technology

Aways leading the way with innovative running sock technology:

Heel Power

Fabric technology grips the heel firmly in place to prevent slippage. Now featured on the Recycled Range Original 1000 Mile Sock, Trainer Liner, Lightweight Walk Sock, Approach Sock, and many more.

Fusion system

The 1000 Mile Fusion sock was the first to combine padded zones on the heel and toe with a double-layer system for reduced friction. Available in our Fusion, Fusion Anklet, Fusion Socklet, and Fusion Walk Sock.

Padded Achilles heel

Added support and protection for the Achilles tendon. The padding helps keep the tendon warm and supple, increasing blood flow, reducing swelling, and aiding recovery.

Top venting

Airflow channels keep the foot cool and comfortable. This feature is included in many of running socks.
