The journey began in 1973 when brothers Joel and Perry Altshule,
then proprietors of a downtown Los Angeles retail sporting goods
emporium, decided to provide better value merchandise by producing
products in-house. Specifically, the two entrepreneurs saw the
growing backpack, duffle bag and camping accessory markets as
the perfect opportunity to fulfil consumers needs for durable,
economically-priced outdoor products.Leasing a small warehouse
space, they staffed what sewing equipment could be squeezed in,
and The Altshule Sales Company Inc. began production of Outdoor
Products® branded goods. High demand for and strong sell-through
of Outdoor Products® led to the brand's introduction into
the sporting goods market.
By 1974, the company was a full-fledged maker of a growing line
of products, with the initial western area distribution broadened
to the national level. Since that time, Outdoor Products®
parent company since renamed The Outdoor Recreation Group has
become one of the world's leading manufacturers of backpacks,
duffles and lifestyle accessories. Outdoor Products® is one
of the leading U.S. brands of backpacks and duffle bags. The Outdoor
Recreation Group has also launched brands to accommodate the needs
of niche markets: Fieldline (hunting, fishing and outdoor adventure);
Threshold (skiing); and Oblique (snowboarding). Taking advantage
of its well-deserved reputation for manufacturing excellence,
The Outdoor Recreation Group added capacity for original equipment
manufacturing (OEM) to serve as an outsourcing resource for reputable
brands and retailers nationwide. 1000 Mile Sportswear introduced
the brand to the United Kingdom in 2000.
The products look a little different these days, however, as the
brand has distilled a quarter of a century of heritage to bring
Outdoor Products® back to basics. Outdoor Products® aims
to combine contemporary design with classic styling, whilst sticking

by normal wear, accident, improper care or negligence cannot be
